IN BED Residency #2: Bondi Wash

We’re pleased to announce the latest addition to our IN RESIDENCE program; a series of collaborations that will see our Melbourne flagship store host creations from a roster of our favourite brands, designers, and artists.

Our second residency will see our friends at Bondi Wash showcase their growing capsule from within our IN BED Armadale boutiqueTo celebrate the launch of the range, which will be in store at IN BED Armadale from December 1-17, we caught up  with Bondi Wash founder Belinda Everingham to learn more about the native botanicals-based brand and its sustainability journey.

Hi Belinda, can you share with us a bit of how Bondi Wash came to be?

It started with a love of fragrance and sensitivity to harsh chemicals. I was trying to find good quality and natural alternatives for washing products, with very little luck.

It all came together very serendipitously while on holiday in Far North Queensland. We were surrounded by Australian native plants that I’d never heard of; many with beautiful scents. I was reading the novel ‘Perfume’ by Patrick Susskind at the time - I was so inspired by the way a smell can so powerfully draw you into the moment or evoke emotions from the past. It struck me that Australia could create something special from its native plants.

Bondi Wash came to be very quickly after this. I began researching all the amazing properties of Australian native ingredients – and started creating scents and natural wash products to showcase them, launching Bondi Wash in 2013.

What is the ethos behind the brand?

Our vision is to introduce beautiful Australian scents and ingredients to the world through very natural products. If we can’t create a product that’s effective and natural, we won’t release it.

Every product is designed to bring a little bit of joy to home, without causing harm to our health or the planet.

What does the current family of Bondi Wash products look like?

Our range spans across products for the home, body (including face and hair), baby and dog. Some of our best-sellers include the Bench Spray (multi-purpose cleaner), Laundry Wash, Floor Wash, Body Wash and Mist Spray.

Across the range we have over 11 different fragrances, each designed like a perfume and made from blends of Australian essential oils.

Bondi Wash will be in residence at IN BED Armadale from December 1-17.

Just like IN BED, sustainability sits at the heart of Bondi Wash’s design and function - can you talk a little more about the eco-conscious decisions you have made in terms of both packaging and product?

I always aim to create in a way that is sustainable and respectful of the planet and its resources. All BONDI WASH products are 99-100% naturally derived - this is unusual even within the natural product space. We also do a lot of research into ingredients and choose the most natural, ethically sourced ingredients, even if they are more expensive.

Sustainability and integrity in our packaging is also important. Our products are designed to last longer. For example, our trigger sprays and soap pumps only give you what you need – less than other brands. All our products come in fully recyclable aluminium, plastic or glass bottles. We’ve also released and are expanding 5L bulk options to reduce single use bottles.

Do you have any advice for those wanting to become more mindful consumers, and how we can embrace a more sustainable and eco-friendly life within the home?

Buy less and buy quality that will last. Where you can, choose natural, pure ingredients – not just in what you’re eating, but what you’re putting on your body and into your home environment.

We are thrilled to be housing Bondi Wash as a part of the IN BED In Residence program. Can you explain why you chose to partner with IN BED and what values both brands share?

IN BED are a natural fit for our first Melbourne pop-up. We share the same commitment to choosing natural and high-quality materials, and similar ethos around bringing pleasure through simple moments at home.

Can you share a little more about what consumers can expect to find at the pop-up?

The BONDI WASH store experience is a huge part of our brand. We're excited to finally give our community in Melbourne the chance to try our range and discover our fragrances in such a warm and beautiful space. You’ll find a curated selection of our best-selling products at the pop-up, including gifts.

What else does the future hold for Bondi Wash?

In terms of the future, there’s a lot coming up for Bondi Wash. We’re about to celebrate our 10th anniversary, so we have some very exciting collaborations and products in the works. Now as a more established brand, I’m having fun pushing the boundaries - exploring new ingredients, product categories and markets.
