Natalia & Luca, Potts Point

With things changing so quickly in Australia and around the world right now we’re reminded of the importance of keeping the calming constants in our life close; our loved ones, our little doses of nature, our creative outlets. In a special Journal feature two of our favourite creatives; Natalia Parsonson & Luca Kiripun invite us into their home during isolation, photographing each other, their work and some of their favourite things.

“Luca and I live in a share-house in Potts Point with some good friends, I’ve been here for eight years and Luca for three… it’s a small block of four on a quiet, leafy dead-end street and an easy stroll to most of our frequent haunts.”

“We both enjoy making pictures, painting, drawing, making sculptures, cooking, watching old movies, flicking through art and photography books. We also spend a lot of time making playlists and moodboards and spooning Claude our adopted tonkinese cat.”

“The most special pieces in our home are old, sentimental family photos, art that Luca has made, photography, books, a lamp by Goffredo Reggiani from the 60s, various gifts we have given each other and some beautiful ceramics made by Lucas’ mum.”

[when not in lockdown] We spend a lot of time at Room 10, our coffee and salad spot, Fratelli Paradiso for pastries, pasta and wine, Gaku Robata for our favourite Ramen and the Kings Cross markets on a Saturday for fresh food and produce. We also love the Cross Art + Books Shop, Film Club, Dear Saint Eloise and Smalls Deli for the best sandwiches. A short walk from us are the Royal Botanic Gardens & Andrew Boy Charlton Pool, perfect for dips and laps over the warmer months.”

“At first the recent changes were a little unsettling although as things have progressed it’s hard to feel anything but incredibly lucky to be here in Australia, we have been counting our blessings and making the most of this time to reflect, cleanse and create and get into a more healthy routine.”

[On creativity] “We both seem to enjoy photography more than anything, so for now we’re on that journey together which is cool and sometimes confronting haha! Our styles and influences are very different yet we are now able to work together and separately and support each other along the way… the end result of Lucas’ incredible patience ;).”

“For the rest of this year we are most looking forward to being able to travel and of course, time with friends and family.”
