The Making of Atelier IN BED
Photography by Kim Walker & Imogene Roache
This week we invite you behind the scenes of Atelier IN BED, an evolving series of capsule collections using repurposed, sourced vintage, and dead stock fabrics. In a further effort to minimise our environmental impact, the limited edition range was designed entirely in house and handmade in small numbers within 10 km of our Sydney warehouse. Discover the intention behind Edition #1, as IN BED founder, Pip Vassett shares the process of reworking IN BED off-cuts and archival European-made fabrics to create anew.

An Atelier IN BED Bed Cover in Gingham & Blue was created by patch-working surplus textiles, including limited edition fabrics Lake textured cotton & Navy Gingham linen from a previous kitchen collection. A series of rectangle cushion covers in Natural, Moss & Walnut and Coastal Check, Chestnut & Natural feature archival fabrics in a complementary palette.

Atelier Noren in Natural is inspired by Japanese designs, featuring classic IN BED shades while this Atelier Bolster Cushion features an ode to our beloved, sell-out collection: Walter Stripe.
“Atelier is really a space for us to play and experiment; to create small, limited-edition pieces here in Australia using surplus European fabrics from our main collections, as well as vintage finds, deadstock and locally sourced materials", says Pip.
Atelier is really a space for us to play and experiment; to create small, limited-edition pieces here in Australia using surplus European fabrics from our main collections, as well as vintage finds, deadstock and locally sourced materials.
The result is a range of unique and symbolic pieces that represent a new chapter for IN BED. Released in regular editions, each with its own perspective, Atelier items will be available only for a limited time and in strictly limited numbers - unlikely to be produced again.

Pieces like our Altelier Noren in Cocoa & Chestnut offer an insight into the history and evolution of IN BED, combining past season shades and fabrics to create anew.
With a conscious, local production model and limited releases, not only are we able to minimise waste and reduce our carbon footprint, we are also able to respond to what resonates with our community. In Pip's own words; “I want Atelier to always feel a little bit fun and exploratory, but still stay true to what we care about most: making beautiful, meaningful, and thoughtfully crafted textiles.”

Designing Atelier IN BED:

The making of Atelier IN BED Bedcover #2: from ideation, to fabric souring, and the finished product - the process was completed in Sydney, within 10kms from our warehouse.

From sketch to stitch, the majority of the Atelier IN BED creative process was completed by hand.

Precious IN BED off-cuts and samples are never wasted, instead they are carefully collected and catalogued for projects such as this.
