The Most Read Journals of 2025
As we close out another year, we take a look back on the most loved stories of 2025. It was a particularly special year for the IN BED Journal, where we published our debut book Sanctuary: an anthology of home tours, each showcasing the art of authentic living and intentional style. Since the beginnings of IN BED we’ve featured over 400 homes, and we feel incredibly fortunate to have such a unique storytelling opportunity. We can’t wait to share even more spaces with you in the new year, but until then enjoy this year’s highlights to inspire newfound love, appreciation - and inspiration - for your very own sanctuary.

Sydney: Alex Kelly
We stop by the home of Alex Kelly, creative director of one of our favourite Sydney haunts, Baba’s Place. Here, the new dad lives with partner & creative producer, Samantha Oliver, daughter, Anja Mei and dog, Ziggy in the Sydney suburb of Randwick, the “inner west of the east”, as he’s coined it. Just like the restaurant, their surroundings are infused with nostalgia, and a sense of time & place. Join us on a tour, as we chat baby-proofing, where does a mean burger, and Corner 75, a preservation project in collaboration with Sixpenny that opened earlier in the year.

Mexico City: Kazuya Kawakami
Kazuya Kawakami appears to have lived nine lives already; from leaving behind his family’s metal hardware business in Toyama, opening Mexico City’s first Karaoke bar, helping fellow expats through a career in real estate, and now bringing Fukiya, a Japanese blowpipe sport, to Mexico. The common theme among all these pursuits – a passion for sharing his native culture with his newfound home. Residing on the edge of the city, in Contadero, Kazuya has lived in the same house for over 20 years, slowly improving and tending to this sacred space over the passage of time. Surrounded by woodland, it feels like a natural home for the born adventurer, where, over tea around his traditional chabudai table, stories of a life-well-lived unfold…

The Hague: Maike Borst
We travel to Wassenaar, a coastal town perfectly positioned between The Hague and Amsterdam where we happen upon a thoughtfully restored home at the hands of Studio &Space founder Maike Borst. Context is everything for the prolific designer, who believes ‘the architecture, the surroundings, and most importantly, the people who live there’ should be reflected in every interior. Her home, of course, is no exception – forging a connection between the property’s past and present through ornate stained glass windows, textured walls, warm wood detailing and brick facade. Now fit for family life, Maike invites us in to discuss what she’s working on at the moment, her favourite antique finds, and the country that holds a special place in her heart.

Warrandyte: Tilly Barber, Giulia Chiro, Chloe Worthington & Shannon May Powell
We first covered Monde furniture designer, Tilly Barber on the IN BED Journal at her bushland studio in 2022. Years later, we meet again at High Noon: a sprawling Alistair Knox-commissioned property on Wurundjeri land. A place constantly in flux, High Noon currently houses Tilly & son Mars in the the main residence, Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner Giulia Chiro in her poolside cabin, and artists-in-residence Shannon May Powell & Chloe Worthington in a seperate bungalow. On the shared acreage the four women have created a self-described commune that leads to cook-ups, yoga, soaks in the outdoor bath and above all, as Giulia so aptly puts it: a ‘collectivist spirit’ that you can feel in each fibre of this ever-evolving household.

London: Rosie Kellett
2025 has been a big year for food writer, chef, and supper club host Rosie Kellett. Just before the launch of her first cookbook, In For Dinner, Rosie and her seven housemates were unexpectedly evicted from their Hackney Wick warehouse. Just a few short weeks later, and in the company of four friends, we meet Rosie at her character-filled North London terrace – a bright & airy space that already feels like home. This week on the Journal, we uncover the joys of communal living (and dining) and simply couldn’t leave without Rosie’s recipe for savoury scones, perfect alongside a warming mug of tea.

Eltham: Lucienne Van Sebille
Lucienne Van Sebille has a special gift for unearthing gems, led by a deep appreciation for sustainability, history & beauty. Her home, an incredible 70’s era Alistair Knox design is no exception. Residing on Wurundjeri land, the stylist & furniture collector shares this rental - another rare find - with her husband, Sebastian and son, Valentin. Moving from Melbourne/Naarm’s north to the outer suburbs marked a ‘tree change’ that also welcomed a new chapter; motherhood & mon house – a vast curation of found furniture, objects & lighting, and an opportunity to sharpen her eagle eye. This week we’re honoured to offer you a window into Lucienne’s life, business, and iconic family home.

New York: Ryan Lobo & Motts
We drop into the Lower East Side condo of Ryan Lobo - a designer, creative director, co-founder of TOME, and more recently, founder of EMOTE an inclusive & sustainable clothing brand. Every surface strikes a balance between Ryan’s high/low tastes and maximalist tendencies; fine art is layered behind souvenirs, trinkets, and a towering wall of ceramics, as varied in form as they are colour. Despite being a tenant in the city that never sleeps, Ryan has been a loyal IN BED supporter from our earliest beginnings, and it’s with great joy we tour his space with you - one he shares with partner, Motts. The pair, due to be wed next month, have created a home that is generous in both proportion and passion; brought to life through a keen eye for collecting, wanderlust, and artistry. A show home it is not: nothing feels staged, but instead a living reflection of the inner-workings of a beautiful, and wildly creative mind.

Melbourne: Sarah Godden
A love of vintage is what led us to discover Sarah Godden’s online furniture store: Soft Focus House. With an astute eye for aesthetics (perhaps from a previous career as an Art Director) her sourced pieces offered an insight into her eclectic taste. Then, Sarah started sharing snippets of her home life: the ambitious renovation of a former Fitzroy garment factory - and in more recent years, an uninspiring office space. Like many, we felt part of the process as Sarah crowd-sourced her decision making and landed on a space that’s like nothing we’ve ever seen. Textures of stainless steel, recycled building materials and polycarbonate panels intersect to create an unconventional family home, with Sarah's husband Mike, her teenagers Summer & Reu, dog Chewie and cat Princess Leia sharing the same roof. Follow along as we tour this converted warehouse, and find out from Sarah about how it came to be.

Madrid: Clara Diez
Clara Diez might just have our dream life – the cheese expert, entrepreneur & mother-to-be lives in a 100 year old apartment in Chamberí, nearby one of her two artisan cheese shops. Alongside her husband Adrián, Clara began Formaje in search of the finest dairy in the world, a delicacy they now share with loyal customers in their striking retail spaces and online. In the gentle weeks before their baby daughter's arrival, the pair graciously invite us into their home, a historic space that reflects their impeccable taste in this ‘classic, quiet and elegant’ corner of Madrid.

Blue Mountains: Paloma Tooth
In her own words, interior stylist Paloma Tooth's home is in a constant ‘state of play’, illustrated through miniature furniture, hand-painted striped walls, a tomato-red four poster bed with leopard print trim, a high-gloss floor finish that once resembled an indoor pool. The dream-like setting the freelance interior stylist, her husband & woodworker Lucas and their son Raphael find themselves in floats high up in the Blue Mountains in NSW’s Katoomba. An IN BED alumni - Paloma worked at our Paddington flagship during her studies - seeing her family’s sanctuary now fills us with joy: an other worldly space limited only by their imagination.

Portland: Katie Higgins
What drew us to Karie Higgins’ work as an interior stylist was that every one of her spaces looks inherently lived in, like it’s been there forever. The native New Zealander's current home, in the trendy city of Portland, Oregon shares the feeling. Full of character, you can tell they really live in this architecturally designed abode; stacks of books, crates overflowing with records, and kid’s doodles taped to the walls are juxtaposed with timeless furniture choices, local artwork and intentional greenery: “there’s something about both planted things and art - they take time to collect and grow, but they completely transform a home”, says Karie. Join us on this heart-warming tour of a house absolutely jam-packed with personality.
