Georgina Davies’ Mullumbimby Cottage

The peaceful haven that is the Northern Rivers’ town of Mullumbimby is where we find furniture & object designer Georgina Davies and the quaint cottage she shares with partner Dane and dog, Rain. Her place of residence provides much of the inspiration for her designs, fulfilling a need or want of her own, before making their way into other spaces. Following a slightly unconventional career path, starting out in commerce before falling for the world of interiors - it’s a delight to see the world through her lens as she talks us through her recent work and we discover what’s behind the  ‘instant rush of happiness’, each time she returns home.

On Georgina’s home…

“Our home is a humble weatherboard cottage which we’ve lived in for about 3 years.  The garden, designed by our dear friend Effie, is definitely my favourite part."

Every time I come through the gate I get an instant rush of happiness. It feels like our little oasis.

"I was hesitant to invest in the landscaping first given what I do for work, but it’s been the most rewarding decision. Every time I come through the gate I get an instant rush of happiness. It feels like our little oasis.”

Georgina's bed is made with a cushion of her own design, paired with our Organic Cotton Percale Duvet Set in White

On her bedroom…

“My bedroom is the brightest room in the house, which is absolutely necessary as someone who is most definitely not a morning person. It looks out onto the garden through these big windows with soft sheers, so the light comes in quite diffused and calm. The masks on the wall are equally terrifying and fantastic and I love them for it.”

and bedtime rituals...

“I have this Lavender and Vetiver pulse point oil that I put on before bed. It’s kind of like a perfume for sleeping. Truly genius.”

On personal style…

“I really believe in integrating old & new and I’m often drawn to things that feel a bit weird and wonderful. [My interior style is] Eclectic, slightly Brutalist. The candlesticks I bought at a market in Krakow have probably been with me the longest. Most recently an art deco timber side table.”

“Pretty much everything I design starts with my own home in mind so the collection has grown quite organically. The Centrefold table was my first piece and still feels really special - it grounds the living room but is also interactive so rearranging the book opening has become a weekly ritual.”

“More recently my lighting pieces made from paper have come into the space. I like how soft they feel in contrast to some of the heavier pieces.”

On unconventional beginnings…

“I didn’t come from a traditional design background, I actually studied commerce. Long story short I moved to London and ended up working for an amazing interiors studio. My product work started more as a personal outlet, a way to explore ideas without commercial constraints.”

On a proud moment…

“A proud moment would be seeing my work featured in Architectural Digest France. I felt truly honoured as the French have such impeccable taste. There was definitely a high-pitched squeal involved.”

On searching for inspiration…

“Lately I’ve been sourcing old design books from AbeBooks and eBay.”

On life in Mullumbimby…

Driving into Mullumbimby from the highway and seeing Mount Chincogan never gets old. And you really can’t beat walking down to Mullum Continental for the world’s best schnitzel.

On plans for 2026…

Watching the garden grow, building a studio and hopefully making time for travel.
