Five Colourful Moods to Suit Any Room
This week on The Journal we revisit five of our favourite features that use unique linen combinations to shape the mood of their bedroom in unexpected ways. To calm, to embolden or to refresh, linen is a great (and easily changed!) way to bring personality to any room.
1. Bold Brick at the Lilyfield House
We’re always so intrigued by the spaces architects build for themselves and how the nuance beneath each small design decision can create a space so much greater than the sum of its parts. Angela Rheinlaender and David Haseler’s ‘Lilyfield House’ is no exception, built with the underlying desire to create a home that would grow with their young family while also designing with sustainability in mind. The master bedroom is beautifully appointed with custom wooden joinery and accents of concrete seen throughout the house. We love the contrast of these details with our bold brick bedding balanced out with a hint of subtle dove grey.
2. Tonal Greens at the Home of Lauren Egan
Interior designer Lauren Egan, her husband Glenn and their two children Ailbe and Rennie live at the beautiful family home they’ve spent the past eight years thoughtfully renovating. Lauren's set made up of our stone, dove grey and grey & white stripe linen has been one of the most popular combinations we've featured on The Journal and sets a cool, calming mood for the master bedroom.
3. Rich Dark Hues With Benjamin Holtrop in L.A
Fashion stylist and art director Benjamin Holtrop has a keen eye for detail so it’s no surprise that his home in Miracle Mile, Los Angeles is a study in texture, balance and form. One of the deepest, darkest combinations we’ve seen on The Journal, Ben's pairing of khaki and moss compliments the accents of green marble throughout his apartment.
4. A Sea of Blues in the Byron Hinterland
Fashion designer Jessica Blume's home is set amongst lush rainforest and alongside Wilson’s Creek, filled with artwork and furniture made by friends; her space is light & airy - an ever evolving tree-top escape. Jessica's linen selection was equally light & airy, a combination of our beautiful lake paired back with grey & white stripe.
5. Muted Tones in a Colourful London Home
India Holmes works as design director at de Gournay, the famed maker of antique interiors and exquisite, hand-painted wallpapers. The attention to detail de Gournay has become renowned for is ever-present in India’s incredibly colourful home, a space that feels it could have been made over generations, yet, has only been in India’s care for less than a year. We were interested to see what combination of linen India would select for her feature and love that she chose our subtle mist to work back with the brighter tones of yellow and green that frame the bed.
