At Home with Floral Designer and Grower Andrea Bardasano

Surrounded by gardens and mountains in Valle de Bravo, Mexico, floral designer and flower grower Andrea Bardasano has created a home centred around nature, family and the things she loves to make by hand.

Designed by Estudio IUAPDA, the family home was imagined as a place where Andrea, her husband, two children, two dogs, a cat and a very charming mini pig could feel close to the land. We caught up with Andrea to talk about flowers, family life, ceramics and the rituals that make a house feel like home.

On their home in Valle de Bravo…

"We bought the land five years ago and started dreaming about a house where we could be in touch with nature, where we could grow food and flowers, and where our kids could be free and feel connected to nature.

We have been here for eight months now. What I enjoy most about this space is the views, the garden and the silence."

On mornings IN BED…

"I love the window in front of my bed. Every morning I open it and I can see my garden. I love the colour palette of the room, and the small living room where I can read.

My mornings are usually running around with the kids, jejejeje. I also love matcha."

On her work with flowers…

"I'm 45 years old and I've been working with flowers most of my life. I'm a floral wedding designer and also a flower grower. I've been working in weddings for 20 years. I'm proud of all the happy brides and families who have made us part of their weddings.

I'm also very proud of growing flowers without pesticides and using them at my events."

Andrea finds inspiration in the things that surround her every day, particularly flowers, ceramics, cooking and the simple pleasure of making things with her hands.

"I love to work with my hands, create, and be around my family and friends. I love to host and have people always at home."

A special piece in her home…

"One of my most special pieces is a ceramic piece that belonged to my grandfather. He arrived in Mexico by ship during the war, and that was the only thing he brought with him from Spain."
